This is the year of Cyberpunk 2077’s about-face. Between the game’s wide-ranging 2.0 update and its slick Phantom Liberty expansion pack, most onlookers now agree that the game is—if not the awe-inspiring masterwork it was hyped up to be prior to release—pretty good. But over at CD Projekt, the game’s disastrous launch still looms large in devs’ memories, and they’re keen to avoid a repeat performance.

It’s a great weekend for trying big games for free, with temporary free weekends currently going on for the excellent superhero strategy game/friendship simulator Midnight Suns, as well as Age of Empires 4 and Far Cry 6.

The original Helldivers was a fun little twin-stick shooter that flew under the radar, but its 3D sequel is proving to be a much bigger deal. On launch day, Helldivers 2 is the top selling game on Steam with a respectable peak of 64,000 concurrent players. Judging by my first hour, it’s very fun, but also kinda broken.

Widespread reports of matchmaking issues and frequent crashes have dominated the conversation around Helldivers 2 so far. The Steam page sits at “Mixed” at the moment with over 5,300 reviews. The majority of negative reviews cite connectivity and crashes, though a few seem peeved that Helldivers 2 uses nProtect GameGaurd anticheat.

Intel has announced that’s its Blockscale 1000-series Bitcoin mining chips are toast and won’t be replaced with a new generation. The news comes just a year after the first Intel Blockscale processors hit the market.

Speaking to Tom’s Hardware, Intel said the move was part of a broader focus on its IDM 2.0 strategy, which has seen Intel tightening its belt and focusing on core operations and products.

Several business units have been closed, wound down or sold off as a consequence, including Optane memory products, its whole SSD division, 5G modems and more. Suffice to say, even before IDM 2.0 Intel had something of a track record for dabbling in new markets only to abruptly exit just as the endeavour seemed to be taking off.

The GeForce RTX 4070 sits squarely in the middle of Nvidia’s 40-series of GPUs, with only the RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4080, and RTX 4090 being faster. However, it’s by far the best one of the lot, as it offers lots of performance for the money.

Unlike many of its brethren, this Zotac Twin Edge model uses a fairly standard size cooler. Underneath it is an AD104 graphics chip, sporting 5,888 shaders, with a boost clock of 2,475MHz. With a total graphics power of 200W, it runs pretty cool for such a powerful GPU.

If you’re upgrading from an older graphics card, note that all RTX 40-series card use the 12VHPWR cable for power. Since this RTX 4070 uses relatively little power, you shouldn’t experience any of the problems that some RTX 4090 owners have, regarding the cable overheating. Read more
